The following is a summary of procedures that are relevant to visiting school groups, which was last updated July 2007.
Fire or Emergency Evacuation procedures
1. Fire in the grounds
In the event that the Police or Fire Services orders an evacuation of the area
• Visitors and staff will evacuate to muster area near the front gate wherever possible. Designated Fire Wardens wearing red or white hard hats will direct the group. Where education programs are led by staff, students will be led immediately to the coach and directed to leave the Venue, turning right onto Megalong Road as per the local precinct evacuation plan.
• In the event of potential bushfire or very strong winds that might put visitors at risk the Venue will be closed fully or in part and visitors warned to leave the closed section(s).
• For evening educational programs, staff will contact each group via hand-held radio, and lead groups to coach in main car park. Fire emergency services will be called and regional fire tenders will attend and implement instructions for coach or vehicles to evacuate.
2. Fire in the Education buildings
On the sound of an alarm, or instruction from a Fire Warden
• Fire Wardens and other staff will alert visitors and evacuate the visitors from the building and direct them to proceed to the lawn in front of Centre’s Café. Gates will be left open for emergency vehicles.
